Advocacy Issues: Governance

View all advocacy issues | Advocacy home

Good governance works to combat corruption, enable transparency and improve financial integrity. Good governance is essential to alleviating poverty and achieving the MDGs.

There is a clear relationship between development and governance. Corruption and weak governance – by both governments and corporations – can undermine the economy, exploit the environment, weaken civil society and abuse human rights. It robs public money and aid funds, undermining social services, particularly impacting the poor and powerless in society. We cannot achieve the Millennium Development Goals without good governance.
