In April 2008, renowned author, theologian and futurist, Tom Sine spoke to TEAR supporters at Macquarie University, Sydney, about his new book, 'The New Conspirators'.

'The New Conspirators: Creating the Future One Mustard Seed at a Time', describes a new generation of innovators, all imagining new ways, in these uncertain times, to give creative expression to that new world that Jesus told us is already here. These new conspirators are not only creating new models but they are also raising important questions about what it means to be a disciple of Jesus, be the church and do mission, that need to be discussed by the entire church.

TEAR Australia staffworker, Steve Bevis has produced a new CD of songs that draw upon his experience of traveling among many of the poor communities that TEAR supports overseas and upon recent hot social and political issues in Australia such as the welcoming of refugees/asylum seekers, Reconciliation and the Iraq War.

The Tropic Of Conversation” is a collection of songs that investigate these issues from a place of spiritual commitment and a concern for the building of community. They are songs for reflection and inspiration. And the CD's rich musical environment is created by a group of wonderful musicians including TEAR's own Carlyn Chen on violin.

Provocative, challenging and inspiring, “The Tropic Of Conversation” contains songs that face head on, the burning issues of faith, politics and development in our contemporary global situation.

From Under a Leaky Roof exposes the myth that once refugees leave detention centres, it all works out. With insight gained from four years spent living and working in Afghanistan, Phil illuminates the conditions and issues facing Afghan asylum seekers. It is their compelling words that punctuate his detailed research and analysis to provide an engaging and easy-to-read spotlight on an Australian social and political crisis. He writes: "TPV holders began to get permanent visas... People who were declared terrorists, opportunists and queue jumpers, illegals, boat people and immoral were suddenly acceptable… it is safe to assume that all the issues still remain, and the need for changes are still as valid… Asylum seekers will come again and when they do, what response will they receive?" In mid-2006, Australian journalist and TEAR supporter Matt Wade travelled to India. He met people whose lives have been changed through community development programs run by TEAR's partners. He also encountered many children and families still trapped in poverty and injustice.

The result is Unequal Worlds: Revisited. A hard-hitting DVD that poses challenging questions about why the world is the way it is - and why we let it stay that way.

Complete with study questions for secondary school or church groups, Unequal Worlds: Revisited is available at a special price of $5 to anyone who orders from TEAR's Gift Catalogue.
