Vinoth Ramachandra was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka and holds bachelors and doctoral degrees in nuclear engineering from the University of London. Since 2002 he has been Secretary for Dialogue & Social Engagement (Asia) with the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students, a global partnership of over 150 university student movements. His role includes giving public lectures and seminars in universities and helping Christian graduates respond to some of the social, cultural and political challenges they face in their national contexts throughout Asia. Vinoth is the author of several books including The Message of Mission (2003), Gods That Fail (1996), Faiths in Conflict? (1999) and The Scandal of Jesus. Vinoth's latest book, Subverting Global Myths will be published (by SPCK and IVP-USA) in July 2008.
Karin Ramachandra was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. She has bee involved in different forms of Christian social work ‑with drug addicts in Denmark and Holland, Cambodian refugees on the Thai-Cambodian border and foreign prisoners in Bangkok’s jails. These were mostly, but not exclusively, with Youth With a Mission (YWAM). She also helped start and run a children’s home in Thailand to protect children from prostitution and factory slavery. She began university studies with these practical experiences behind her. She obtained a Diploma in Psychology from a university in Denmark, together with a B.A. in Counseling and an M.A. in Biblical Studies from the University of the Nations, an international university developed by YWAM. Her Master’s dissertation was on “Biblical Ethics for Working with the Poor”. Teaching the Bible and training people in leadership are now her passions and there have been many opportunities in various parts of the world. One particularly gratifying experience was a couple of years spent assisting a local pastor in a Bombay church to train cell-group leaders.
Her last couple of years before marriage were spent developing a University of the Nations project in Pune, India. In 1998 she married Vinoth Ramachandra which has, among other things, widened her opportunities for ministry worldwide. In Sri Lanka she is involved in a counseling ministry and is also on the Visiting Faculty of Colombo Theological Seminary (where she teaches courses ranging from globalization to education) and is a lay-preacher in her local (Anglican) church.
