Transform Together

Designed exclusively for churches and Christian groups, Transform Together enables Australian churches to connect with some of the best community development projects in the world. Your church or group can choose a particular project to support over the long term that can become your mission focus and a vehicle for growing discipleship.

Linking You with Communities

TEAR understands that churches are increasingly looking for a deeper and more wholistic connection with overseas mission, including ministry to the world's poor and marginalised. There is a growing trend among many churches and Christian groups to have fewer mission partners, but to seek meaningful connections with overseas partners and explore deeply what a biblical response to poverty might mean for them. TEAR's new Transform Together offers that connection.

The Kari Project that helps support people like Amreen is now fully supported by a Transform Together program. However there are other projects that your church or group can get involved in – read more below.

Transform Together is about a wholistic response. When a church commits to a Transform Together international project, they indicate their willingness to give financially, but also to learn, pray, advocate and think about how our lives here in Australia impact those of the overseas partner. TEAR provides information and resources to support the church through this discipleship journey.

These can include: information sheets, posters, PowerPoint presentations and a customised online donation page. We can even provide artwork for your own leaflets and posters. TEAR staff familiar with the project can speak at church services or meetings, or help prepare Bible study materials and prayer updates. TEAR will also seek to provide opportunities to visit the relevant projects through our existing Development Education Exposure Programs.

How can your church get involved?

How can your church get involved?

  1. Contact your local state office and discuss what a Transform Together partnership might look like for your church or group.
  2. Choose a project to support.
  3. Decide what your targets are going to be. Think about how much money you want to raise, and what your church/group wants to learn, and how (e.g. through Bible studies or prayer meetings).
  4. Together with your local TEAR staff member, discuss your plans and what help you want from TEAR. This is a partnership, not a program, so these conversations are important.
  5. Go for it!

Designed exclusively for churches and Christian groups, Transform Together enables Australian churches to connect with some of the best community development projects in the world. Your church or group can choose a particular project to support over the long term that can become your mission focus and a vehicle for growing discipleship.

Churches on the Transform Together journey

Kingsway Community Church NSW

Kingsway Church has been supporting two of TEAR's projects in Cambodia, run by TASK and CHO. Ten of their church members visited these partners in January 2010. Matt Anslow, TEAR's new Young Adults Coordinator, was the Young Adults Pastor at the time. “It was a real privilege to see the work of TEAR's partners and the positive effect they are having on the lives of those trapped in poverty. Many of our group felt humbled and challenged by the work we saw.”

Start your Transform Together journey

Contact your local state office to discuss what a Transform Together partnership might look like for your church or group.

As a result of the trip, not only has the church raised money, but they have got involved in prayer and advocacy around issues of poverty and development. “Coming back, we have been able to explore how both Jesus' calling and the needs of the world must impact our whole lives.”

“It's not just about the money, although raising money for a specific project is important. It's also a way of engaging the whole church in an experiential program that seeks to understand poverty, our role in it, and how it impacts our faith. It is about us growing in our overall discipleship.”

- Jenni White, senior pastor of Kingsway Community Church, Sydney.

Transform Together Projects

Transform Together initially is supporting one of TEAR Australia's partners:

  • Christian Community Services (CCS) in Kenya

It requires approximately $100,000 each year for the next three-year funding cycle. Details about the project can be found in the document below, including:

  • Background to the partner organisation
  • Information about the country
  • Description of the project and its anticipated outcomes
  • Case studies and stories, and details about what has already been achieved
  • Staff and community profiles
  • Suggestions for how Christians in Australia can respond.

As churches or groups pledge their support and cover the budgets for these projects, TEAR will add more projects to Transform Together.
