TEAR’s forTomorrow campaign launch – March 2014

Note: This information has expired. Current news and events.

In scripture we read of a better tomorrow; a tomorrow of justice, hope and peace.

Inspired by this vision, TEAR is launching forTomorrow – a new campaign to encourage Australian Christians to raise their voices in solidarity with women suffering poverty and injustice around the world.

We will be running launch events in each state in March featuring speaker Lynne Knight from TEAR’s partner Family Impact in Zimbabwe.

Here are the dates of the launch events:

  • 13 March 2014 - Melbourne – St Thomas Burwood, 44 Station St Burwood, 7:30-9:30pm
  • 14–16 March 2014 - Melbourne, Belgrave Heights – Surrender weekend

Why women?

  • Women in developing countries carry much of the load of poverty and injustice.
  • 70% of the world’s poor are women
  • Women make up two-thirds of the world’s illiterate population
  • Women do more than two-thirds of the world’s work, yet earn less than 10% of the world’s wages.
  • A woman dies in childbirth every minute
  • For women aged 15-44, gender violence accounts for more deaths and disability than cancer, malaria, traffic accidents and war.

We’re passionate about changing these statistics through community development projects, many of which empower women. We believe that transforming the lives of women leads to the transformation of entire communities.
