What does it look like to be people of hope in a world that is crying out for God’s Kingdom to be revealed?

Romans 8:18-25 tells us that earth and humanity are groaning.

The whole creation finds itself in tension between two realities: enduring ever-present suffering, yet waiting eagerly for – and experiencing glimpses of – the freedom that God has promised.

During Lent, we’ll turn our attention to the groaning of humanity and creation – and to the Word of God that speaks of glory, freedom and hope.

About the artist – Chris de Hoog

Chris de Hoog is an artist and graphic designer living and working in Geelong, Victoria. He is married to Amie and they have four children.

Chris graduated from RMIT University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Design (Communication Design). After five years working as a graphic designer, Chris began his own graphic design business. Creating art was always a passion that he dreamed of pursuing and he is currently enjoying the balance of working as an artist and designer.

Chris loves the freedom painting brings and appreciates it as a vehicle to express ideas and feelings. After the rather traumatic birth of their fourth child (Sullivan), Chris found painting to be a way of connecting with his inner thoughts and an extremely helpful form of therapy. Sometimes in life, there are no words to fit our feelings, and he is thankful to God for different avenues like music and art that can help us understand and convey our thoughts.

Chris’ work explores creation (specifically landscapes) in an abstract way, often using bright, bold colour schemes with the intention of allowing the viewer to make their own connection to and interpretation of the artwork. Chris is amazed by the beauty and intricacies of creation and marvels at the imagination and design of God, who created it all.

Job 12:7-10
7“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you;
the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you;
8 or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you;
and the fish of the sea will declare to you.
9 Who among all these does not know
that the hand of the LORD has done this?
10 In his hand is the life of every living thing
and the breath of all mankind.”
