TEAR Groups

Joining or starting a TEAR Group is a great way to connect with people who share TEAR's passion for achieving justice and ending poverty.

TEAR Groups, all over Australia, provide a friendly and stimulating environment in which people can explore issues of poverty, injustice and how they can respond to these issues. Learning and laughing together, listening to each other and to God, you will join others in the journey of seeking a just and compassionate world in which all people have the opportunity to achieve their God-given potential.

The focus of each group varies and is determined by its members, including: education, prayer, encouragement, advocacy, lifestyle and giving. TEAR Groups aim to provide an opportunity for:

  • engaging meaningfully with the Gospel;
  • embracing both individual spiritual growth and social change; and
  • experimenting with practical responses to human need—in Australia and abroad.

TEAR Groups are an invitation to go deeper with God in loving our world today.

Joining a TEAR Group is a great way to connect with people who share TEAR's passion for achieving justice and ending poverty. The focus varies from group to group, and can include advocacy, community education, prayer or fundraising for TEAR's programs. There are TEAR Groups in all parts of the country. They usually meet monthly and welcome new members.

Start a TEAR Group

There are active TEAR Groups in every state across Australia!  However, if there is no group in your area, and you are interested in establishing a group, then please contact the TEAR staff in your state.

No two groups are the same – your group is able to develop and embrace the justice concerns of your group. Groups vary in size, interests, experiences, meeting times, places and styles!

How TEAR can support new TEAR Groups:

  • Every month a TEAR Agenda is emailed to the group facilitator – it contains prayer points, info on issues, a Bible study, connections to TEAR projects and advocacy actions.
  • TEAR Staff are able to attend the initial meetings to get the group off to a flying start! (depending on locality).
  • You can invite TEAR staff back every year to hear what’s happening in TEAR or about particular project visit or about advocacy issues.
  • TEAR staff are only a phone call away and can help support you and help with any training you need.
  • We can help get the word out about new groups starting to help you build a core of regular attenders to your group.
  • TEAR Staff will phone occasionally during the year to get your feedback and to offer any assistance should you need it.
  • If you need help, advice or publicity or a speaker for any advocacy event – just contact your state staff!
