Have you ever had a teacher who ignited a spark in you, celebrated your creativity or encouraged your passion? We’ve got a feeling that Asmita from Nepal is one of those special teachers.
TEAR Australia’s partner Share and Care has supported Asmita to realise her dreams, by providing her with a scholarship and a job teaching primary school. She is now a Grade 3 teacher in her local community, with a heart to see the children around her flourish.
At 21 years old, Asmita has a vision for education in her village. She says: "In this area we have a very high level of illiteracy which we are working to change. I love teaching and see our children as the future of the community. They are like small plants right now, and it is our responsibility to water and nurture them.”
Beyond the classroom, Asmita has become the Secretary of a Share and Care Women’s Group, volunteered with the earthquake recovery efforts, and is being mentored to continue bringing about sustainable changes in her village.
She says: “My hope for tomorrow is to continue my study and continue teaching our children to become all they can be."
